DR JOL THOMS
Jol Thoms is founder of the ongoing oceanic sound ritual Radio Amnion: Sonic Transmissions of Care in Oceanic Space that, since 2020, commissions artists’ compositions, transmitting them 2.5 kms deep in – and addressed to – the Pacific Ocean during each full moon. Signalling beyond the purely measurable and quantifiable, and with a focus on onto-epistemic justice, he mangles strategies from quantum field theory, experimental anthropology, audio-visual arts, and anti-colonial feminist science studies to think, feel, and sense beyond-the-human. In 2024, with the EU Commission, he is developing participatory and transdisciplinary methods of counter-mapping within their ‘Green New Deal’ and the burgeoning legal field of Rights of Nature. Thoms recently participated in Postscript of Silence – Ming Contemporary Art Museum, Shanghai; Ocean Evening – Ocean Space, 60th Venice Biennale; The Measure of the World – RADIUS Centre for Contemporary Art and Ecology, Delft; Unknown Unknowns: An Introduction to Mysteries – 23rd International Triennale Milano.
